حين درستُ العمارة، تعلّمتُ أن المبنى يبدأ بخط.
When I studied architecture, I learned that a building begins with a line.
ثم اكتشفتُ مع السنوات أن الخط وحده لا يصنع عمارة.
Then, over the years, I discovered that a line alone does not make architecture.
هناك الإنسان الذي سيمشي داخل الخط.
There is the human being who will walk within that line.
وهناك الحركة التي ستقطع الفراغ.
There is the movement that will cross the space.
وهناك الحدث الذي سيقع فجأة.
And there is the event that will suddenly occur.
وهناك الزمن الذي سيغيّر معنى المكان.
And there is time, which will change the meaning of place.
عند هذه النقطة تحديدًا يدخل برنارد تشومي إلى المشهد.
It is precisely at this point that Bernard Tschumi enters the scene.
فهو لم يسأل فقط: كيف نصنع مبنى جميلًا؟
He did not merely ask: How do we make a beautiful building?
بل طرح سؤالًا أكثر خطورة.
He asked a more dangerous question.
