حين أنظر إلى عمارة بن فان بركل، لا أرى مباني تنتظر أن نصورها.
When I look at Ben van Berkel’s architecture, I do not see buildings waiting to be photographed.
أرى حركةً تجمّدت للحظة كي نستطيع رؤيتها.
I see movement frozen for a moment so that we may perceive it.
أرى خطًا بدأ على الورق، ثم رفض أن يبقى خطًا.
I see a line that began on paper, then refused to remain a line.
تحوّل إلى جدار.
It became a wall.
ثم انحنى الجدار ليصبح سقفًا.
Then the wall curved into a roof.
ثم هبط السقف ليصبح طريقًا.
Then the roof descended into a path.
ثم بدأ الإنسان يمشي داخله.
Then the human being began walking through it.
وهنا حدث شيء مهم.
And here something important happened.
لم يعد الإنسان يدخل المبنى.
The human being no longer merely entered the building.
بل أصبح جزءًا من هندسته.
He became part of its geometry.
هذه بالنسبة إليّ هي بوابة فهم بن فان بركل.
For me, this is the gateway to understanding Ben van Berkel.
إنه لا يصمم الشكل أولًا ثم يبحث عمن يسكنه.
He does not first design a form and then search for someone to inhabit it.
إنه يبدأ بالحركة.
He begins with movement.
من يدخل؟
Who enters?
من يخرج؟
Who leaves?
أين يلتقي الناس؟
Where do people meet?
أين يفترقون؟
Where do they separate?
ماذا يرون أثناء المشي؟
What do they see while moving?
وماذا يحدث عندما يصبح الطريق نفسه عمارة؟
And what happens when the path itself becomes architecture?
من هنا تبدأ هذه الملحمة.
From here this epic begins.
ليست ملحمة رجل يرسم مباني غريبة.
It is not the epic of a man drawing unusual buildings.
بل ملحمة معماري حاول أن يجعل العمارة تفكر في الزمن والحركة والإنسان.
It is the epic of an architect who tried to make architecture think about time, movement, and humanity.
