كان فرانس فان دير لُغت كاهنًا يسوعيًا هولنديًا عاش في سوريا قرابة خمسين عامًا.
Frans van der Lugt was a Dutch Jesuit priest who lived in Syria for nearly fifty years.
لم يكن ضيفًا عابرًا، بل صار ابن المكان.
He was not a passing guest, but became a son of the place.
خدم المسلمين والمسيحيين دون تمييز،
He served Muslims and Christians without distinction,
ورأى في الإنسان قبل الدين جوهر الإيمان.
and saw the human being as the core of faith.
عندما حوصرت حمص، كان يستطيع أن يغادر.
When Homs was besieged, he could have left.
لكنه اختار أن يبقى.
But he chose to stay.
قُتل عام 2014 داخل ديره في حمص القديمة.
He was killed in 2014 inside his monastery in the Old City of Homs.

He did not die as a symbol,
