هناك معماريون يبنون مباني…
There are architects who build buildings…
وهناك رجلٌ واحدٌ
أراد أن يبني العالم من جديد
بخطٍ واحدٍ فقط.
And there was one man
who wanted to rebuild the entire world
with a single line.
اسمه لوكوربوزييه.
His name was Le Corbusier.
لكن اسمه لم يكن اسمًا،
بل حدثًا.
But his name was not a name,
it was an event.
زلزالٌ فكري،
A conceptual earthquake,
 
ريشةٌ رسمت المدن
كما تُرسم السماء على الماء،
A feather that drew cities
as the sky draws itself upon water,
ويدٌ من الضوء
كانت “تُهندس الفكرة”
 
 قبل أن تلمس الورق.
And a hand of light
that “engineered thought”
before touching paper.
كتابي عنه
ليس كتابًا عن رجلٍ عاش…
بل عن رجلٍ ما يزال يحدث الآن
في كل زاوية من هذا الكوكب.
My book about him
is not a book about a man who lived…
but about a man who is still happening now
in every corner of this planet.
لن تقرأوا مشروعًا واحدًا فقط…
You will not read about a single project…
بل ستدخلون الغرفة التي فيها
صرخ لوكوربوزييه أول مرة:
But you will enter the room where Le Corbusier screamed for the first time:
“المبنى ليس مسكنًا…
المبنى آلةٌ للحياة.”
“A house is not a shelter…
A house is a machine for living.”
ثم ستدخلون غرفًا أخرى
لم تُفتح من قبل،
حيث كان الضوء
يسقط على الورق
مثل وحيٍ من جهة مجهولة.
Then you will enter other rooms
never opened before,
where light fell upon paper
like revelation from an unknown direction.
ستقفون معه
في شارع ضيق من شوارع باريس،
You will stand with him
in a narrow Paris street,
 
 
 
حين قرر فجأة
أن المدينة يجب أن تهدم
لكي تتنفس.
When he suddenly decided
that the city must be demolished
so it could breathe.
وستسافرون معه إلى الجزائر،
And you will travel with him to Algiers,
حيث رأى البحر
ورأى فوقه مدينة كاملة
تسبح مثل سفينةٍ من الأسمنت.
Where he saw the sea
and atop it a whole city
floating like a ship of concrete.
وستدخلون رأسه
حين جلس في مركبٍ صغير
في بحيرة جنيف،
And you will enter his mind
as he sat in a small boat
on Lake Geneva,
ينظر إلى الماء
وكأنه يرى الخريطة الأولى للكون.
Gazing at the water
as if seeing the universe’s first map.
