The Epic of the Flowers of Evil – Imad Darouich
وُلد الشعر الحديث من رحم الصدمة،
Modern poetry was born from the womb of shock,
ومن بين رماد المدن الأوروبية ظهر صوتٌ غريب،
And from the ashes of European cities arose a strange voice,
صوتٌ متمرّد، متألّم، ساحر، هو صوت بودلير.
A rebellious, suffering, enchanting voice – the voice of Baudelaire.
"أزهار الشر" ليست ديوانًا فقط،
Les Fleurs du mal is not merely a collection of poems,
بل مدينة شعرية كاملة،
But an entire poetic city,
تسكنها الملائكة والشياطين،
Inhabited by angels and demons,
تتجاور فيها الكنائس مع الحانات،
Where churches stand beside taverns,
وتختلط فيها صلوات القديسين بضحكات العاهرات.
And the prayers of saints mingle with the laughter of courtesans.
 
A Glimpse of Baudelaire 
شارل بودلير (1821–1867) عاش حياة قصيرة،
Charles Baudelaire (1821–1867) lived a short life,
لكنها كانت مثل شعلة تحرق الليل.
But it was like a flame that burns the night.
شاعر باريس الحديثة،
The poet of modern Paris,
وابن الشوارع المرصوفة بالحجر والظلال،
Son of cobbled streets and shadows,
كتب عن الحب والجمال والموت والمدينة.
He wrote of love, beauty, death, and the city.
ديوانه "أزهار الشر" حوكم بسببه بتهمة الفجور،
His collection Les Fleurs du mal was tried for obscenity,
لكنه صار لاحقًا إنجيل الشعر الحديث.
Yet it later became the gospel of modern poetry.
