Zuhayr ibn Abī Sulmā al-Muzanī,
شاعر عاش في زمن الحرب،
a poet who lived in a time of war,
لكن قصيدته كانت راية سلام.
yet whose poem was a banner of peace.
امتاز عن غيره بالحكمة،
He distinguished himself from others with wisdom,
وبالكلمة التي تزن الذهب.
and with words that weighed like gold.
في معلقته لم يفتخر بالخمر ولا باللهو،
In his Muʿallaqa he did not boast of wine or revelry,
بل تغنّى بالعقل، والوفاء، ونبذ العداوة.
but sang of reason, loyalty, and rejecting enmity.
كان صوته صدى الأجداد،
His voice was the echo of the ancestors,
ووعيه بذرةً لشعراء الحكمة بعده.
and his awareness a seed for poets of wisdom after him.
