هذه الملحمة مستوحاة من روح مسرحية «الحمير» لتوفيق الحكيم،
This epic is inspired by the spirit of Tawfiq Al-Hakim's play “Al-Hameer,”
لكنها لا تعيد سردها، ولا تمثلها مسرحيًا…
But it does not retell it, nor present it theatrically…
بل تتجاوزها نحو واقعٍ يعرف كل شيء…
ولا يجرؤ أن يعترف بأي شيء.
It transcends it toward a reality that knows everything… yet dares to admit nothing

(إلى ملحمة الحمير – To the Epic of the Donkeys)
لم أكتب هذه الملحمة لأتحدث عن الحمير،
بل لأتحدث عن الذين قرروا أن يصبحوا كذلك… كي يستمروا في العيش.
I did not write this epic to speak of donkeys,
But to speak of those who chose to become so… merely to survive.

هذه ليست قصة الحيوانات،
بل قصة البشر حين تعبوا من إنسانيتهم.
This is not the story of animals,
But of humans exhausted by their own humanity.
حين اكتشفوا أن الوقوف يحتاج إلى عمود فقري،
اختاروا الركوع… لأنه أقل كلفة.
When they realized that standing requires a spine,
They chose to kneel… for it was cheaper.

هذه المقدمة لا تعرّف العمل،
بل تختبر قدرتك على مواجهته.
إن قررت قراءة هذه الملحمة،
فأنت تقرر الدخول إلى عالمٍ ينهق فيه العقل… ويسكت فيه الضمير.
This introduction does not explain the work,
It tests your ability to confront it.

في هذا النص،
لن تسمع صهيل الحمير فقط،
بل ستسمع صهيل الصمت… حين يتحوّل إلى موافقة.
In this text,
You will not only hear the bray of donkeys,
But the bray of silence… when it becomes approval.

في زمنٍ أصبح فيه الكلام جريمة،
والسخرية مقاومة،
والاستغرابُ فعلَ شجاعة،
قرّر البعض أن يكون “غبيًا” احترامًا للسلامة.
In a time when speaking became a crime,
Satire became resistance,
And raising questions an act of courage,
Some chose to be “foolish” in the name of safety.

لا تبحث عن بطل هنا،
فالملحمة بلا أبطال.
في عالم الحمير… البطولة تهمة،
والوعي خطر،
والصمت فضيلة.
Do not search for a hero here,
This epic has none.
In the world of donkeys… heroism is an accusation,
Awareness is a threat,
And silence a virtue.

إن وجدت نفسك تضحك أثناء القراءة،
فاحذر… تلك ليست ضحكة،
ذلك هو الألم يرتدي ملابس السخرية كي يُسمَح له بالمرور.

كُتبت بأصابعٍ خمّنت أن الحقيقة قد تُسجن يومًا…
فقررت أن تتخفّى في هيئة حمار.
Every sentence in this epic
Was written by fingers that suspected truth may be imprisoned one day…
So it decided to disguise itself as a donkey.

لا أعدك أن تجد حلًا،
ولا أطلب منك أن تصدقني.
أطلب شيئًا واحدًا فقط:
أن تقرأ وأنت واقف… وإن كنت جالسًا.
I do not promise answers,
Nor do I ask for your belief.
I ask one thing only:
Read as if standing… even if seated.

إن انتهيت من هذه الملحمة وما زلت تظن أن الحمير هي الحيوانات فقط،
