Great books are not written by the hand alone,
بل تُكتب بالروح التي تهيم في فضاء الله،
But by the spirit wandering in the space of God,
وهكذا كانت الفتوحات المكية لابن عربي.
Thus was The Meccan Revelations of Ibn Arabi.
 
محيي الدين ابن عربي (1165 – 1240)،
Muhyiddin Ibn Arabi (1165 – 1240),
الفيلسوف الصوفي، العارف، والرحّالة بين الأمكنة والأرواح،
The Sufi philosopher, gnostic, and traveler between places and souls,
ولد في الأندلس، وتنقّل بين المشرق والمغرب،
Born in Andalusia, journeying between East and West,
حتى استقرّ به الحال في دمشق حيث وُوري جثمانه،
Until his days ended in Damascus, where his body rests,
وبقيت كلماته تنبض كأنها حياة لا تفنى.
While his words continue to pulse like an undying life.
الفتوحات المكية ليست مجرد موسوعة صوفية،
The Meccan Revelations is not merely a Sufi encyclopedia,
بل مدينة من الأسرار الروحية،
But a city of spiritual secrets,
مكوّنة من أكثر من خمسمئة فصل،
Composed of more than five hundred chapters,
جمع فيها ابن عربي خلاصة تجربته في الحب الإلهي، والمعرفة، والرحلة.
In which Ibn Arabi gathered the essence of his experience in divine love, knowledge, and the journey.
 
إنه كتابٌ يتجاوز الزمان والمكان،
It is a book transcending time and space,
كتابٌ يُقرأ بالقلب قبل العقل،
A book read by the heart before the mind,
ويُفتح بالدمعة كما يُفتح بالكلمة.
And opened by a tear as much as by a word.
أما هذا العمل – الملحمة،
As for this work – the Epic,
فهو إعادة كتابة شعرية–فلسفية لروح الفتوحات،
It is a poetic–philosophical rewriting of the spirit of the Futuhat,
بعشرة فصول كبرى،
In ten grand chapters,
تحاول أن تجعل القارئ يسلك مع ابن عربي درب الكشف.
Attempting to let the reader walk with Ibn Arabi on the path of unveiling.
