أدولف لوس ADOLF LOOS المعماري الذي أعلن الحرب على الزخرفة THE ARCHITECT WHO DECL

$10.00Price

When I read Adolf Loos, I do not see merely an architect who designed a collection of houses.

I see a man who stood before an ornamented Europe and told it: Enough.

Enough placing flowers upon walls to conceal the weakness of an idea.

Enough dressing a building in clothes it does not need.

Enough turning the façade into a theater of display.

He wanted to return architecture to its bones.

To the wall.

To the room.

To material.

To the human being who lives within.

Yet the paradox is that the man who fought ornament was not an enemy of beauty.

He was an enemy of false beauty.

He searched for a more difficult beauty.

The beauty of proportion.

The beauty of silence.

The beauty of material when it does not disguise itself as something else.

And here begins the epic of Adolf Loos.

The epic of a man who tried to strip architecture of its nineteenth-century garments.

And, whether intentionally or not, helped clear the road toward modernism.
