Antoine Predock — The Epic of Desert Geometry

$10.00Price

I do not write about Antoine Predock to count his buildings.

Nor to place his name among great architects and simply move on.

I search for the question that lived behind his lines.

How can a building belong to the earth?

How can light become a building material?

How can human movement become part of the plan?

And how can a mass of stone, concrete, and glass carry the memory of a place?

1967. (UNM UCAM Newsroom)
Predock was born in Missouri in 1936, but found his architectural and spiritual homeland in New Mexico, establishing his Albuquerque practice in 1967. (UNM UCAM Newsroom)

From there emerged an architecture difficult to separate from the desert.

Architecture carrying something of the mountain.

Something of the valley.

Something of the road.

And something of the human being walking alone toward the horizon.

(CMHR)
Predock conceived buildings as sequences of movement and perception, rather than merely static objects. (CMHR)

And here his epic begins.
