لم تكن الحرب الأولى في التاريخ حربَ سيوفٍ ورماح
The first war in history was not fought with swords or spears,
بل كانت حرباً على القلب والعقل والنية.
It was a war upon the heart, the mind, and the intention.
هناك، في فجر الخليقة،
There, at the dawn of creation,
وقف كائنٌ متمرّد يعلن أجرأ بيان عسكري عرفه الكون.
A rebellious being stood and declared the boldest military statement the universe had known.
لم يقل سأطاردهم في أوكار الفساد،
He did not say: I will hunt them in the dens of corruption,
ولم يقل سأنتظرهم في مستنقعات الرذيلة.
Nor did he say: I will wait for them in the swamps of vice.
فالأماكن المظلمة لا تحتاج إلى كمائن،
For dark places do not require ambushes,
ومن يسير إليها غالباً قد ضل الطريق بالفعل.
And those who walk toward them are often already lost.
الكمائن، كما يعرف القادة العسكريون،
Ambushes, as military commanders know,
تُنصب دائماً على الطرق الحيوية.
Are always set on vital roads.
على الطرق التي يعبرها الناس نحو أهدافهم.
On the roads people travel toward their goals.
على الطرق التي تقود إلى النجاة.
On the roads that lead to salvation.
وهناك أعلن العدو خطته بوضوحٍ مذهل:
And there the enemy announced his plan with astonishing clarity:
{قَالَ فَبِمَا أَغْوَيْتَنِي لَأَقْعُدَنَّ لَهُمْ صِرَاطَكَ الْمُسْتَقِيمَ}
“I will surely sit in wait for them on Your straight path.”
 
هو لا ينتظرك في الظلام،
He does not wait for you in darkness,
بل على حافة الضوء.
But at the edge of light.
يجلس عند باب التوبة،
He sits at the door of repentance,
وعند اللحظة التي تقرر فيها أن تصبح أفضل.
At the moment you decide to become better.
يقف عند سجدةٍ حاولت فيها أن تجمع قلبك المبعثر.
He stands beside a prostration in which you tried to gather your scattered heart.
وعند خطوةٍ صغيرةٍ نحو الله.
And beside a small step toward God.
كلما اقتربت من النور،
The closer you come to light,
اشتدت الحراسة حول الطريق.
The tighter the guard around the road becomes.
لهذا يشعر كثيرون بثقل الطاعة.
That is why many feel the weight of obedience.
كأن الطريق فجأة صار أطول.
As if the road suddenly grew longer.
وكأن القلب صار أثقل.
As if the heart became heavier.
لكن الحقيقة أبسط مما نظن:
But the truth is simpler than we think:
لقد بدأ الكمين.
The ambush has begun.
