حين وقفت أمام لوحة دالي «اكتشاف أمريكا بواسطة كريستوفر كولومبوس» (1959)، شعرت أنني لست أمام حدث تاريخي فقط، بل أمام مسرح كوني، فيه يلتقي البحر بالسماء، والماضي بالمستقبل، والرحلة بالحلم.
When I stood before Dalí’s “The Discovery of America by Christopher Columbus” (1959), I felt I was not facing a historical event only, but a cosmic stage, where sea meets sky, past meets future, and voyage meets dream.
اللوحة ضخمة، مليئة الأشرعة البيضاء، والأعلام، والوجوه، والرموز. كولومبوس ليس وحده فيها، بل كل إنسان يسافر نحو مجهوله الخاص.
The painting is vast, filled with white sails, flags, faces, and symbols. Columbus is not alone in it, but every human being sailing toward his own unknown.
هذه الملحمة التي أكتبها ليست عن أمريكا فقط، بل عن اكتشاف الذات، عن سفن الروح وهي تبحر من موانئ دمشق القديمة إلى محيطات لا تنتهي.
This epic I write is not only about America, but about the discovery of the self, about the ships of the spirit sailing from the harbors of Old Damascus into endless oceans.
 
السفن البيضاء تملأ الفضاء.
The white ships fill the space.
أشرعتها ممدودة كأجنحة ملائكة.
Their sails stretched like the wings of angels.
لا تبحر على بحر، بل على هواء صافٍ، كأنها تسبح في السماء.
They do not sail upon the sea, but on clear air, as if swimming in the sky.
السفن عند دالي ليست خشبًا ولا حبالًا.
The ships in Dalí are not wood nor ropes.
إنها أفكار، تطفو، تتقدّم، تبحث عن أرض جديدة.
They are ideas, floating, advancing, seeking new land.
كل شراع صفحة، وكل صفحة قصيدة.
Each sail a page, each page a poem.
من بعيد، تبدو كأنها قافلة نور تتجه نحو مستقبل غامض.
From afar, they appear as a caravan of light heading toward a mysterious future.
أتذكّر مراكب بردى الصغيرة حين كنا أطفالًا، كيف كنّا نرسمها على الورق وكأنها تحملنا إلى قارات لم نرها.
I remember the small boats of the Barada River when we were children, how we drew them on paper as if they carried us to continents unseen.
