It is the tale of Safouh al-Barazi, the child who grew up in Hama to the sound of waterwheels,
ثم شابٌ نُفي نصف قرنٍ بعيدًا عن بيته،
Then a young man exiled half a century away from his home,
ثم عائدٌ مرفوع الرأس،
Then returning with his head held high,
كأنما حمل سوريا كلها على كتفيه.
As if he carried all of Syria on his shoulders.
