كتب دوستويفسكي أن الجريمة ليست في الفعل وحده،
Dostoevsky wrote that crime is not only in the act,
بل في الفكرة التي تسبق الفعل.
but in the thought that precedes it.

هذه حكاية إنسانٍ ظنّ نفسه فوق القوانين،
This is the tale of a man who thought himself above laws,
فإذا به يقع في شبكة ضميره.
only to fall into the net of his own conscience.

It is not the story of a murderer and a victim,
بل قصة روحٍ تبحث عن الله وسط الظلام.
but the story of a soul searching for God amidst darkness.
إلى كل قلب حمل سرًّا مظلمًا،
To every heart that carried a dark secret,
وإلى كل عقلٍ ظنّ أن الفكرة تبرّر الدم،
to every mind that thought an idea could justify blood,
إلى كل روحٍ اكتشفت أن الغفران أعظم من العقاب.
to every soul that discovered forgiveness is greater than punishment.
