يا نهرًا لا يبحث عن البحر.

O river that seeks no sea.

بل عن ذاكرةٍ لا تموت.

But a memory that never dies.

يا فراغًا يشرب الماء.

O void that drinks water.

ولا يرتوي أبدًا.

Yet is never filled.

كيف صرتَ قلب مدينة.

How did you become a city's heart.

ينبض بالصمت؟Beating with silence?

كيف صار الغياب.How did absence become.

أثقل من الحجر؟Heavier than stone?

الماء يهبط بلا توقف.The water falls without end.

قطرةً بعد قطرة.Drop after drop.

كأنه بكاء السماء.As though the sky were weeping.

على الأرض.For the earth.

لكن الفراغ.Yet the void.

لا يكتفي.Is never satisfied.

لا يشبع.Never fulfilled.

لا يغلق جرحه.Never closes its wound.

الأشجار تحرس المكان.The trees guard the place.

كحراس معبدٍ قديم.Like guardians of an ancient sanctuary.

والريح تمشي ببطء.The wind walks slowly.

خشية أن توقظ الحزن.Afraid to awaken grief.

الناس يقتربون.People draw near.

بلا ضجيج.Without noise.

يقرأون الأسماء.They read the names.

كما تُقرأ الصلوات.As prayers are recited.

بأصابع مرتجفة.With trembling fingers.

وبقلوب صامتة.And silent hearts.

كل اسمٍ هنا.Every name here.

مدينة كاملة.Is an entire city.

وكل حرفٍ.Every letter.

عمرٌ لم يكتمل.A life unfinished.

أيها الماء.O water.

أنت لا تسقط.You do not merely fall.

بل تعود.You return.

إلى الذين رحلوا.To those who departed.

وتحمل رسائلهم.Carrying their messages.

إلى السماء.Toward the heavens.

أيها النصب.O memorial.

لستَ نافورة.You are not a fountain.

ولا حوضًا.Nor a basin.

ولا عملًا فنيًا.Nor merely a work of art.

أنت صلاة.You are a prayer.

من ماء.Made of water.

أنت محراب.You are a sanctuary.

بلا جدران.Without walls.

ومئذنة.A minaret.

من صمت.Built from silence.

هنا سقط الفولاذ.Here the steel fell.

لكن الكرامة.But dignity.

لم تسقط.Did not fall.

هنا انهارت الأبراج.Here the towers collapsed.

لكن الإنسان.Yet humanity.

نهض من الرماد.Rose from the ashes.

هنا أدركت نيويورك.Here New York understood.

أن القوة.That strength.

ليست في العلو.Is not in height.

بل في القدرة.But in the ability.

على الوقوف من جديد.To rise once again.

كل قطرة.Every drop.

شاهدٌ لا يكذب.Is a witness that never lies.

وكل دائرة ماء.Every circle of water.

تكتب اسمًا جديدًا.Writes another name.

في كتاب الذاكرة.Into the book of memory.

أيها النهر الذي لا يمتلئ.O river that never fills.

لقد علمتنا.You have taught us.

أن بعض الفراغات.That some voids.

لا خُلقت لتُملأ.Were never meant to be filled.

بل لتبقى.But to remain.

شهادةً على الحب.A testimony to love.

وشهادةً على الفقد.A testimony to loss.

وشهادةً على الإنسان.A testimony to humanity.

حتى آخر قطرة.Until the final drop.
