The building that defied gravity

ملحمة زها حديد

المبنى الذي رفض الجاذبية

استيقظتْ زها داخلَ مخططٍ غريب.

Zaha awoke inside a strange blueprint.

لم تكنْ هناكَ جدرانٌ مستقيمة.

There were no straight walls.

ولا زوايا تعرفُ الانضباط.

No angles knew discipline.

كانتِ الخطوطُ تسبحُ بحرية.

The lines swam freely.

كأنها نسيتْ قوانينَ الهندسة.

As if geometry forgot itself.

سمعتْ برجاً يناديها بعيداً.

A tower called her afar.

قال: نحنُ نهربُ منكِ.

It said: we are escaping.

سألتْ بدهشةٍ كبيرة.

She asked in astonishment.

ولماذا تهربونَ جميعاً؟

Why are you all fleeing?

قالَ البرجُ وهوَ يلتوي.

The tower twisted and answered.

تعبنا من الخرائطِ القديمة.

We are tired of maps.

تعبنا من البقاءِ ثابتين.

Tired of remaining still.

نريدُ أن نحلمَ أيضاً.

We want to dream too.

وفجأةً تحركتِ المباني كلها.

Suddenly all buildings moved.

خرجتْ من المدنِ بصمت.

They left cities silently.

وعبرتْ الصحارى والبحار.

Crossing deserts and seas.

كانتِ النوافذُ تضحكُ عالياً.

The windows laughed loudly.

وكانتِ الأسقفُ تغني وحدها.

The roofs sang alone.

قالتْ زها للمباني الهاربة.

Zaha asked the fleeing buildings.

إلى أينَ تذهبون الآن؟

Where are you going now?

قالوا: نحوَ مدينةِ الخيال.

Toward the city of imagination.

حيثُ لا سلطةَ للجاذبية.

Where gravity holds no power.

وحيثُ تنحني الأحلامُ فقط.

Where only dreams bend.

وصلوا إلى ساحةٍ بيضاء.

They reached a white plaza.

في وسطها بابٌ عائم.

At its center floated a door.

لا جدارَ يحملهُ أبداً.

No wall carried it.

ولا أرضَ تحتهُ إطلاقاً.

No ground beneath it.

سألتْ زها البابَ الغريب.

Zaha questioned the strange door.

من أنتَ أيها الباب؟

Who are you, door?

قال: أنا المستقبلُ نفسه.

I am the future itself.

لا أفتحُ إلا للحالمين.

I open only for dreamers.

ابتسمتْ زها أخيراً.

Zaha finally smiled.

ودخلتْ عبرَ الضوءِ الهادئ.

Stepping through gentle light.

وخلفها تبعتها المباني.

The buildings followed behind.

كأنَّ العمارةَ تعلمتِ الطيران.

As architecture learned to fly.
