NOBLE CHARACTER

موطأ مالك — كتاب حسن الخلقAL-MUWAṬṬAʾ OF MĀLIK — THE BOOK OF GOOD CHARACTER

عن أبي هريرة رضي الله عنه أن رسول الله ﷺ قال:Abū Hurayrah (RA) narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

«إنما بُعثت لأتمم مكارم الأخلاق.»“I was sent only to perfect noble character.”

رواه مالك في الموطأ، وصححه الألباني.Reported by Mālik in Al-Muwaṭṭaʾ and authenticated by Al-Albānī.

الأخلاق…Character…

ليست زينة على ثوب.is not an ornament upon a garment.

وليست كلمات تحفظ في الدفاتر.Nor words memorized in notebooks.

وليست ابتسامة أمام الناس.Nor a smile displayed before others.

ثم تختفي حين نغلق الأبواب.Then forgotten behind closed doors.

الأخلاق…Character…

هي ما يبقى منك،is what remains of you,

حين تسقط عنك كل الأقنعة.when every mask has fallen away.

هي أنت حين لا يراك أحد.It is who you are when no one sees you.

هي يدك حين تستطيع الانتقام،It is your hand when revenge is possible,

فتختار أن تعفو.yet you choose forgiveness.

هي لسانك حين تستطيع الجرح،It is your tongue when it could wound,

فتختار الكلمة الطيبة.yet you choose the gentle word.

هي قوتك حين تواجه الضعيف،It is your strength before the weak,

فتتحول القوة إلى رحمة.when strength becomes mercy.

الأخلاق…Character…

جسر بين الروح والروح.is a bridge from soul to soul.

وحديقة تنمو داخل القلوب.A garden growing within hearts.

تسقى بالصدق.Watered by truth.

وتكبر بالرحمة.Growing through mercy.

وتستقيم بالعدل.Made upright by justice.

وتزهر بالجمال.And blossoming through beauty.

قال الحبيب ﷺ:The Beloved ﷺ declared:

«إنما بُعثت لأتمم مكارم الأخلاق.»“I was sent only to perfect noble character.”

كأن الرسالة كلها،As though the entire message,

بصلاتها وصيامها وعبادتها،with its prayer, fasting, and worship,

تريد أن تصنع إنسانًا.seeks ultimately to shape a human being.

إنسانًا إذا امتلك القوة،A human being who, when given power,

لم يظلم.does not oppress.

وإذا امتلك المال،When given wealth,

لم يتكبر.does not become arrogant.

وإذا اختلف،When disagreement comes,

لم يهدم كرامة الآخر.does not destroy another’s dignity.

وإذا غضب،When anger rises,

لم يجعل غضبه سكينًا.does not turn anger into a knife.

وإذا انتصر،When victorious,

لم يجعل النصر إذلالًا.does not turn victory into humiliation.

وإذا خسر،And when defeated,

لم يخسر إنسانيته.does not lose his humanity.

من عبد الله بلا خلق،Whoever worships Allah without character,

فقد فصل العبادة عن أثرها.has separated worship from its purpose.

فالسجود الذي لا يصنع تواضعًا،A prostration that creates no humility,

يبقى حركة لم تبلغ القلب.remains a movement that never reached the heart.

والصيام الذي لا يهذب اللسان،Fasting that does not discipline the tongue,

يبقى جوعًا لم يكتمل معناه.remains hunger whose meaning is incomplete.

والعلم الذي لا يصنع رحمة،Knowledge that produces no mercy,

قد يصبح جدارًا من الغرور.may become a wall of arrogance.

والدين الذي لا يحفظ كرامة الإنسان،And religion that does not preserve human dignity,

لم يصل بعد إلى تمام الأخلاق.has not yet reached the fullness of character.

الأخلاق…Character…

هي العمارة الحقيقية للحياة.is the true architecture of life.

فالصدق أساسها.Truth is its foundation.

والعدل أعمدتها.Justice is its columns.

والرحمة نوافذها.Mercy is its windows.

والتواضع أبوابها.Humility is its doors.

والوفاء سقفها.Loyalty is its roof.

والضمير نورها الداخلي.Conscience is its inner light.

فلا بناء يعلو بلا أساس.No building rises without foundations.

ولا مجتمع يستقر بلا عدل.No society stands without justice.

ولا أسرة تعيش بلا رحمة.No family thrives without mercy.

ولا قلب يزهر بلا حب.No heart blossoms without love.

قد تبني مدينة من الرخام،You may build a city of marble,

ثم تهدمها كلمة ظلم.then destroy it with one unjust word.

وقد تمتلك قصرًا عظيمًا،You may possess a magnificent palace,

ولا تجد فيه مكانًا للرحمة.yet find no room within it for mercy.

وقد تكون فقيرًا،You may own almost nothing,

لكن قلبك يتسع للعالم.yet your heart may contain the world.

لأن الإنسان لا يقاس،For a human being is not measured

بما يملكه حوله.by what surrounds him,

بل بما يحمله داخله.but by what he carries within.

والعارف يرى الأخلاق صلاة يومية.The mystic sees character as a daily prayer.

قد تكون كلمة طيبة.It may be a gentle word.

قد تكون ابتسامة صادقة.It may be a sincere smile.

قد تكون يدًا تمتد لمحتاج.It may be a hand reaching toward someone in need.

قد تكون سترًا لخطأ إنسان.It may be concealing another’s mistake.

قد تكون صمتًا عند الغضب.It may be silence in a moment of anger.

وقد تكون عفوًا،It may be forgiveness,

حين يكون الانتقام ممكنًا.when revenge is entirely possible.

وهنا يبدأ الامتحان الحقيقي.And here the true test begins.

ليس حين تكون ضعيفًا.Not when you are powerless.

بل حين تستطيع أن تؤذي،But when you have the power to hurt,

ثم ترفض أن تفعل.and choose not to.

تلك لحظة الأخلاق.That is the moment of character.

الأخلاق لا تحتاج مسرحًا.Character needs no stage.

ولا جمهورًا يصفق لها.Nor an audience to applaud it.

أجمل الأخلاق،The most beautiful character

تحدث غالبًا في الخفاء.often appears in secret.

حين تعفو ولا يعلم أحد.When you forgive and no one knows.

حين تساعد ولا تذكر اسمك.When you help without announcing your name.

حين تحفظ سرًا،When you protect a secret,

كان بإمكانه أن يمنحك القوة.that could have given you power.

حين تقول الحقيقة،When you tell the truth,

مع أنها قد تكلفك كثيرًا.even though it may cost you dearly.

وفي النهاية…And in the end…

قد ينسى الناس كلماتك.People may forget your words.

وقد ينسون منصبك.They may forget your position.

وقد ينسون بيتك.They may forget your house.

وقد ينسون ما كنت تملك.They may forget what you possessed.

لكنهم يتذكرون،But they remember

كيف جعلتهم يشعرون.how you made them feel.

يتذكرون يدًا لم تتركهم.They remember a hand that did not abandon them.

وكلمة رفعتهم من الحزن.A word that lifted them from sorrow.

وعفوًا جاء في لحظة خوف.Forgiveness offered in a moment of fear.

ورحمة أعادت إليهم كرامتهم.Mercy that restored their dignity.

وهنا نفهم سر الحديث.Here we understand the secret of the Ḥadīth.

فالرسالة لم تأت،The message did not come

لتبني الإنسان من الخارج فقط.merely to build the human being outwardly.

بل لتعيد هندسته من الداخل.It came to rebuild him from within.

حتى يصبح القلب محرابًا.Until the heart becomes a sanctuary.

والرحمة نافذة.Mercy becomes a window.

والعدل ميزانًا.Justice becomes a balance.

والخلق العظيم،And noble character

هو العمارة التي لا تنهار.becomes the architecture that never collapses.

﴿وَإِنَّكَ لَعَلَىٰ خُلُقٍ عَظِيمٍ﴾“And indeed, you are of a great moral character.”

سورة القلم — 4Qur’an 68:4

لا تسأل كم بنيت من الجدران.DO NOT ASK HOW MANY WALLS YOU BUILT.

اسأل كم قلبًا لم تهدم.ASK HOW MANY HEARTS YOU DID NOT DESTROY.
