Ahlam, I read your pain; the city’s
windows trembled.
I saw a staircase ascending within your wound.
At its summit, a girl guarded dawn.
They wanted to teach her to seal her heart.
She left a window beyond their reach.
Outside, the age was building its cruelty.
It poured concrete into the mouths of sufferers.
It licensed silence to settle over wounds.
But you wrote until the wall cracked.
Those who had buried their names emerged alive.
They carried their doors upon their backs.
They asked where a person lives after breaking.
You stretched a sentence across the abyss.
One by one, they crossed toward themselves.
Ahlam, your heart knows tenderness comes at a cost.
Every open window admits some of the storm.
Yet a sealed house suffocates those it shelters.
Do not ask your heart to harden.
Entire cities lean upon its tenderness.
Strangers sleep beneath the roof of your words.
You do not know their names; they know the way.
When the world closes in, they open your book.
The walls recede, making room to breathe.
I saw a lift carrying your tear above the city.
On every floor, a sleeping conscience wakes.
At the top, light washes its hands in it.
Thus tenderness reaches where hammers cannot.
Thus writing becomes an architecture of survival.
The pen may tire; your hand may tremble at dusk.
Set it down; let the window welcome you.
You need not carry the sky every night.
It is enough that you kept a door there.
Tomorrow, when they ask where honor lived,
Someone will point to a page that survived the fire.
They will read your name; the letters will rise.
And make room for one human beside another.
Ahlam… Keep this heart that aches within you.
Through its cracks, the future learns to enter.
