BETWEEN AL-ANDALUS AND THE MAYA

وصلت إلى كنكون عند الغروب.

I arrived in Cancún at sunset.

وكان البحر يرتدي الذهب.

The sea was wearing gold.

وكانت الغابة تهمس بهدوء.The jungle whispered softly.

وكان الضوء يمشي ببطء.And light walked slowly.

ظننت أنني أزور منتجعًا.I thought I visited a resort.

لكنني دخلت قصةً معمارية.Instead, I entered an architectural story.

قصةٌ بدأت قبل قرون.A story begun centuries ago.

بين الأندلس والمايا البعيدة.Between Al-Andalus and the Maya.

رأيت قوسًا فوق الماء.I saw an arch above water.

قوسًا يشبه حلمًا قديمًا.An arch resembling an ancient dream.

فذكرتني ملامحه بقرطبة.Its form recalled Córdoba.

لكن البحر كان كاريبيًا.Yet the sea was Caribbean.

وكانت الأشجار من يوكاتان.And the trees were Yucatán.

فهمت حينها شيئًا مهمًا.Then I understood something important.

الحضارات لا تموت بسهولة.Civilizations rarely die completely.

إنها تغير ملابسها فقط.They merely change garments.

وتسافر عبر الأزمنة.And travel through time.

وتظهر بأسماء جديدة.Appearing under new names.

الأقواس تحدثت عن الأندلس.The arches spoke of Al-Andalus.

والحجر تحدث عن المايا.The stone spoke of Maya wisdom.

أما الماء فجمعهما معًا.Water united them both.

في الفناء سكن التأمل.Contemplation lived in courtyards.

وفي الظلال سكنت الحكمة.Wisdom lived within shadows.

وكان الصمت جزءًا من التصميم.Silence became part of design.

كما في قصر الحمراء.Just as in Alhambra.

وكما في معابد المايا.And within Maya temples.

كانت البركة مرآةً للسماء.The pool mirrored heaven.

وكانت السماء مرآةً للروح.The sky mirrored the soul.

وكان الضوء يكتب قصائده.Light wrote its poetry.

فوق الحجر والخشب والماء.Upon stone, wood, and water.

في فلسفة IIAA المعمارية.In IIAA architectural philosophy.

الطبيعة هي العميل الأول.Nature is the first client.

والبحر عضوٌ في الفريق.The sea joins the team.

والريح مهندسٌ خفي.Wind is a hidden architect.

والشمس مصممةٌ للفضاء.Sunlight designs the spaces.

نحن لا نبني فوق الطبيعة.We never build over nature.

بل نبني معها دائمًا.We build together with it.

نستمع للأرض أولًا.We listen to land first.

ثم نرسم الخطوط.Then we draw lines.

نحترم حركة الظلال.We respect moving shadows.

ونحترم اتجاه الرياح.And honor prevailing winds.

ونحترم ذاكرة المكان.And respect memory of place.

فالعمارة ليست شكلًا فقط.Architecture is not merely form.

وليست مادةً فقط.Nor merely material.

إنها حوارٌ طويل.It is a long dialogue.

بين الإنسان والطبيعة والتاريخ.Between humanity, nature, and history.

تخيلوا مشروع القنطرة.Imagine the Al-Qantara project.

منتجعًا يولد بين الحضارات.A resort born between civilizations.

مدخله قوسٌ أندلسي.Its entrance, an Andalusian arch.

تحيط به نباتات استوائية.Surrounded by tropical flora.

وفي قلبه فناء هادئ.At its heart, a courtyard.

تنعكس فيه النجوم ليلًا.Reflecting stars at night.

وتغني فيه المياه نهارًا.Water sings there by day.

الممرات من خشبٍ منحوت.Corridors crafted from carved timber.

والضوء يتسرب بينها.Light filters gently through.

كبقعٍ من الذهب الحي.Like fragments of living gold.

الأجنحة تطل على البحر.Suites overlook the sea.

وتتنفس عبر المشربيات.Breathing through mashrabiya screens.

والحدائق تجمع عالمين.Gardens unite two worlds.

الأندلس في جهة.Al-Andalus on one side.

والمايا في الجهة الأخرى.The Maya on the other.

لكن الروح واحدة.Yet the spirit is one.

في هذا المكان الحالم.Within this dreamlike place.

لا يوجد شرق أو غرب.There is no East or West.

ولا شمال أو جنوب.Nor North or South.

هناك فقط إنسان يبحث.Only humanity searching.

عن الجمال والمعنى والسكينة.For beauty, meaning, and peace.

وهنا تصبح العمارة رسالة.Here architecture becomes a message.

وليست مجرد مبنى جميل.Not merely a beautiful building.

رسالة تقول بهدوء.A message quietly saying:

إن الجمال يوحد البشر.Beauty unites humanity.

وإن الاحترام يبني الحضارات.Respect builds civilizations.

وإن الحوار يصنع المستقبل.Dialogue shapes the future.

لهذا أحببت كنكون.That is why I loved Cancún.

فهي ليست منتجعًا فقط.It is not merely a resort.

وليست شاطئًا فقط.Nor merely a beach.

إنها جسرٌ بين عالمين.It is a bridge between worlds.

وجسرٌ بين حضارتين.A bridge between civilizations.

وجسرٌ بين قلبين.A bridge between hearts.

بين الأندلس والمايا.Between Al-Andalus and the Maya.

وبين الإنسان والعالم.Between humanity and the world.
