مقدمة Introduction

أكتب هذه الكلمات اليوم لا بصفة المؤرخ ولا بصفة المادح، بل بصفة ابن قريةٍ يعرف رجالها واحدًا واحدًا. 

I write these words today not as a historian or a

praise-giver, but as a son of a village who knows its men one by one.

لقد تربيت مع الدكتور بسام درويش في قرية جسرين في الغوطة، وكنا من الجيل نفسه الذي كبر بين بساتينها وبيوتها الطينية وذكرياتها البسيطة. 

I grew up with Dr. Bassam Darwish in the village of Jesreen in Ghouta, and we belonged to the same generation that grew up among its orchards and simple homes.

كان ابن عمي وصديق طفولتي، قبل أن يصبح اسماً كبيراً في الطب والجراحة.

 He was my

cousin and childhood companion long before he became a great name in medicine and surgery.

ولهذا حين أكتب عنه اليوم لا أكتب عن طبيبٍ بعيد، بل عن إنسانٍ أعرفه منذ البدايات الأولى.

 So when I write about him today, I do not write about a distant doctor, but about a man I have known since the very beginning.

عن فتى خرج من قريةٍ صغيرة، لكنه حمل معه قلبها إلى قاعات العلم وغرف العمليات. 

About a boy who left a small village but carried its heart into lecture halls and operating rooms.

The Doctor Who Turned the Scalpel

into a Prayer

في دمشق وُلدت مسيرته العلمية، لكن جذوره بقيت مغروسة في تراب الغوطة. 

His scientific journey flourished in Damascus, yet his roots remained planted in the soil of Ghouta.

درس الطب، ثم دخل عالم الجراحة حيث تصبح حياة الإنسان بين أصابع الطبيب.

 He studied medicine and entered the world of surgery where human life rests between a doctor’s fingers.

ولم يكن المشرط في يده أداة قطع، بل أداة إنقاذ.

 In his hands, the scalpel was not an instrument of cutting, but an instrument of salvation.

سافر إلى ألمانيا ليعود بالعلم والخبرة، 

He traveled to Germany and returned with knowledge and experience,

لكن قلبه بقي هنا، بين طلابه ومرضاه. 

Yet his heart remained here among his students and patients.

المعلم الذي صنع أجيالاً

 The Teacher Who Shaped Generations

لم يكن الدكتور بسام درويش مجرد جراح ماهر.

 Dr. Bassam Darwish was not merely a skilled surgeon.

كان معلماً يفتح أبواب المعرفة لطلابه. 

He was a teacher who opened the gates of knowledge to his students.

في قاعات كلية الطب بجامعة دمشق، 

In the halls of the Faculty of Medicine

at Damascus University,

لم يكن يشرح الجراحة فقط،

 he did not only explain surgery,

بل كان يزرع في طلابه معنى المسؤولية الإنسانية. 

he planted in his students the meaning of human responsibility.

كان يقول بفعله قبل قوله إن الطب ليس مهنة، بل أمانة.

 Through his actions before his words, he taught that medicine is not a profession but a trust.

أنامل الجراح… وقلب الإنسان 

The Surgeon’s Hands… and the Human Heart

كم مريض دخل غرفة العمليات خائفاً، 

How many patients entered the operating room in fear,

فخرج منها وقد عاد إليه الأمل؟

 and left it with hope restored?

كم عائلة بقيت تذكر ذلك الطبيب 

How many families still remember that

doctor

الذي وقف إلى جانبها في أصعب لحظات الحياة؟

 who stood beside them in the

hardest moments of life?

إن الجراح الحقيقي لا يصلح الجسد فقط، 

A true surgeon does not only repair the body,

بل يرمم قلوب الناس أيضاً. 

he also restores the hearts of people.

تحية من جسرين A Tribute from Jesreen

يا دكتور بسام، 

Dr. Bassam,

أنت واحد من تلك الأسماء التي تجعل القرية تفخر بأبنائها. 

You are one of those names that make a village proud of its sons.

لأنك أثبت أن العلم يمكن أن يسير مع الأخلاق، 

Because you proved that knowledge can walk hand in hand with character,

وأن الطبيب يمكن أن يكون إنساناً عظيماً قبل أن يكون جراحاً عظيماً. 

And that a doctor can be a great human before being a great surgeon.

يقول الحديث الشريف: 

The noble hadith says:

"من لا يشكر الناس لا يشكر الله." “

Whoever does not thank people does not thank God.”

ولهذا نقولها اليوم بصدق:

 And so we say today with sincerity:

شكرًا لك لأنك علمت أجيالاً،

 Thank you for teaching generations,

وشكرًا لأنك أنقذت قلوبًا،

 Thank you for saving hearts,

وشكرًا لأنك بقيت وفيًا لقسم الطبيب. 

Thank you for remaining faithful to the oath of a physician.

الرجال الكبار لا تُقاس أعمارهم بالسنوات، بل بالأثر الذي يتركونه في حياة الناس.

Great men are not measured by years, but by the impact they leave on people’s lives.

والدكتور بسام درويش واحد من تلك الأسماء التي ستبقى محفورة في ذاكرة جسرين ودمشق.

 Dr. Bassam Darwish is one of those names that will remain engraved in the memory of Jesreen and Damascus.
