The Epic of Umar ibn Al-Khattab

The Epic of Umar ibn Al-Khattab

Imad Darouich — New York

In a time when the desert spoke with the sound of swords

A man was born who would change the face of history.

He was not a king.

Nor the son of a king.

But a man

Who emerged from the heart of the desert.

His name

Umar.

He was tall

As if the wind had shaped his stature.

His voice was powerful

As if the desert lived within his chest.

In his youth

He was fierce.

As hard as rock.

Until one day

Everything changed.

The day he heard words

Unlike the speech of men.

Words

From the Qur’an.

In that moment

Something inside him broke.

A new Umar was born.

عمر

Umar

No longer fought the truth.

But became

Its guardian.

Years passed.

The Prophet passed away.

And the nation remained

Searching for a man

To carry its weight.

And it was Umar.

He took the leadership

Yet his heart

Never sat upon a throne.

He walked in the night

Alone.

Hearing the cries of children.

And he said a sentence

No king had said before.

If a mule stumbled in Iraq

God would ask me about it

O Umar.

He did not fear armies.

But he feared

Justice.

He opened cities

But his heart

Remained simple.

He slept

Under a tree.

With no guards around him.

And someone said

A timeless sentence:

You ruled with justice, so you were safe and slept.

And on a quiet morning

A man entered

Carrying a dagger.

In a moment

Umar fell.

But history

Did not fall with him.

For some men

When they die

They become

An idea.

And Umar

Was never just a man.

He was a scale.

A scale

Measuring justice in history.
