2028Perhaps 2028 will arrive

ونيويورك ما تزال تبحث عن نفسها

While New York is still searching for

itself

بين أبراج المال

Between towers of wealth

وأحلام الناس

And the dreams of ordinary people

وقد يقف زهران

And Zohran may stand

في قلب المدينة التي لا تنام

At the heart of the city that never sleeps

ليس حاملاً سيفاً

Carrying neither a sword

ولا راية حرب

Nor a banner of war

بل فكرة

But an idea

فكرة تقول

An idea that says

إن المدينة العظيمة

A great city

لا تقاس بعدد المليارديرات فيها

Is not measured by the number of billionaires

بل بعدد الذين يشعرون أنهم ينتمون إليها

But by the number who feel they belong to it

أتمنى أن يأتي يوم

I hope a day will come

لا يصبح فيه السكن حلماً مستحيلاً

When housing is no longer an

impossible dream

ولا يصبح التعليم امتيازاً للأغنياء

And education is not a privilege for the wealthy

ولا يصبح العلاج رفاهية

And healthcare is not a luxury

بل حقاً للجميع

But a right for all

أتمنى أن تعود الشوارع

I hope the streets return

أماكن للقاء

To being places of encounter

لا ساحات للغضب

Not arenas of anger

وأن تصبح السياسة

And that politics becomes

فن بناء الجسور

The art of building bridges

لا فن بناء الجدران

Not the art of building walls

أتمنى أن يسمع المسؤول

I hope leaders hear

صوت العامل

The voice of the worker

وصوت المهاجر

The voice of the immigrant

وصوت الطالب

The voice of the student

وصوت الأم التي تخاف على مستقبل أطفالها

And the voice of every mother fearing for her children’s future

أتمنى أن تبقى نيويورك

I hope New York remains

مدينة العالم

The city of the world

حيث يجد القادم الجديد فرصة

Where newcomers find opportunity

ويجد القديم احتراماً

And longtime residents find respect

ويجد الجميع مكاناً تحت الضوء

And everyone finds a place beneath the light

فإن تحقق بعض ذلك

If even part of this becomes reality

It will be a victory for the city
