Not every building is built to last.

وبعضها يُبنى ليُدهش.

Some are built to astonish.

وبعضها يُبنى ليطرح سؤالًا.

Others are built to ask a question.

لكن القليل جدًا.

But very few.

يُبنى ليصبح فكرة عالمية.

Are built to become global ideas.

وهذا ما فعلته أليسون بروكس.

That is what Alison Brooks achieved.

في عام 2016.

In the year 2016.

قدّمت للعالم مشروعًا غريبًا.

She presented a remarkable project.

بسيطًا في شكله.

Simple in its form.

وعميقًا في معناه.

Profound in its meaning.

مشروعًا اسمه:

A project called:

الابتسامة.

The Smile.

لم يكن مبنى تقليديًا.

It was not a conventional building.

ولا جسرًا.

Nor a bridge.

ولا نفقًا.

Nor a tunnel.

بل كان شيئًا بين كل ذلك.

But something between them all.

قوسًا خشبيًا عملاقًا.

A giant timber arc.

يرتفع فوق الأرض.

Rising above the ground.

كأنه يبتسم للأفق.

As if smiling at the horizon.

وكأنه يقول للمدينة:

As if telling the city:

لا تزال الدهشة ممكنة.

Wonder is still possible.

وُلد المشروع.

The project was born.

ضمن مهرجان لندن للتصميم.

For the London Design Festival.

عام 2016.

In 2016.

واختير موقعه.

Its location was chosen.

في منطقة تشيلسي.

In the Chelsea district.

بلندن.

Of London.

وسرعان ما تحول.

And it quickly became.

إلى ظاهرة عالمية.

A global phenomenon.

شاهده الملايين.

Millions saw it.

ثم عشرات الملايين.

Then tens of millions.

ثم مئات الملايين.

Then hundreds of millions.

حتى قُدّر انتشاره.

Its reach was estimated.

بأكثر من 290 مليون مشاهدة.

At over 290 million views.

حول العالم.

Across the world.

لكن ما سرّ هذه الشهرة؟

But what created this fame?

الجواب ليس الشكل وحده.

The answer is not form alone.

بل الفكرة.

It is the idea.

فالابتسامة لم تكن منحنى خشبيًا.

The Smile was not merely a timber curve.

بل تجربة معمارية كاملة.

But a complete architectural experience.

يمكن للناس دخولها.

People could enter it.

والسير داخلها.

Walk through it.

والجلوس في نهايتها.

Sit at its ends.

والنظر إلى المدينة.

And observe the city.

من منظور جديد.

From a new perspective.

استخدمت بروكس.

Brooks employed.

خشب التوليب الأمريكي.

American tulipwood.

وهو أحد أقوى الأخشاب الهندسية.

One of the strongest engineered timbers.

وأخفها وزنًا.

And among the lightest.

وقد أرادت أن تثبت.

She wanted to prove.

أن الخشب ليس مادة للماضي.

That timber is not a material of the past.

بل مادة للمستقبل.

But a material of the future.

In the age of steel and glass.

وأن قطعة خشب.

And that a piece of timber.

قد تصبح بيانًا حضاريًا.

Can become a civilizational statement.

وأن العمارة الحقيقية.

And true architecture.

ليست حجم المشروع.

Is not the project's size.

بل قوة الفكرة.

But the power of the idea.

وهكذا بقيت الابتسامة.

Thus The Smile remained.

أكثر من جناح مؤقت.

More than a temporary pavilion.

وأكثر من صورة جميلة.

More than a beautiful image.

لقد أصبحت رمزًا.

It became a symbol.

لجيل جديد من العمارة.

For a new generation of architecture.

عمارة أخف على الأرض.

Architecture lighter on the earth.

وأقرب إلى الإنسان.

Closer to humanity.

وأكثر جرأة في الحلم.

And bolder in dreaming.

فبعض المعماريين يبنون الجدران.

Some architects build walls.

أما أليسون بروكس.

But Alison Brooks.

فقد بنت ابتسامة.

Built a smile.

وما زال العالم.

And the world still.

يبتسم معها حتى اليوم.
