The Epic of the Fifth of June 

في الخامس من حزيران لم تسقط مدنٌ فقط.On the Fifth of June, not only cities fell.

سقطت أوهامٌ كانت أكبر من الجيوش.Illusions greater than armies collapsed.

كانت الإذاعات تعد بالنصر.The radios promised victory.

وكانت السماء تكتب رواية أخرى.While the sky was writing another story.

سمّاها بعضهم نكسة.Some called it a setback.

وسمّاها آخرون حرب الأيام الستة.Others called it the Six-Day War.

لكن الأسماء لا تغيّر الحقائق.But names do not change realities.

فالجرح يبقى جرحاً.A wound remains a wound.

والخسارة تبقى خسارة.And a loss remains a loss.

والتاريخ لا يقرأ الشعارات.History does not read slogans.

بل يقرأ النتائج.It reads outcomes.

في تلك الأيام القصيرة.In those brief days.

تغيّرت خرائط.Maps were altered.

وتبدّلت موازين.Balances shifted.

ودخلت الأمة كلها امتحاناً طويلاً.And an entire nation entered a long trial.

لم تكن الهزيمة سقوط أرض فقط.The defeat was not merely the loss of land.

بل سقوط يقينٍ زائف.It was the collapse of false certainty.

واكتشافاً مؤلماً للفجوة.A painful discovery of the gap.

بين ما يقال.Between what is said.

وما هو موجود فعلاً.And what truly exists.

خرج الجنود من المعركة.Soldiers emerged from battle.

لكن الشعوب بقيت فيها عقوداً.Yet the peoples remained in it for decades.

كل جيل ورث سؤالاً.Each generation inherited a question.

كيف حدث ذلك؟How did this happen?

وأين بدأ الطريق؟And where did the road begin?

في غرفة قرار؟In a decision room?

أم في مدرسة؟In a school?

أم في صحيفة؟In a newspaper?

أم في عقلٍ صدّق نفسه أكثر مما ينبغي؟Or in a mind that believed itself too much?

التاريخ لا ينتقم.History does not seek revenge.

لكنه لا ينسى.But it does not forget.

ولا يرحم من يكرر الأخطاء نفسها.Nor does it spare those who repeat the same mistakes.

ولهذا تبقى ذكرى الخامس من حزيران.That is why the Fifth of June remains.

ليست مجرد تاريخ على التقويم.Not merely a date on a calendar.

بل جرساً يوقظ الأمم.But a bell that awakens nations.

ويقول لها:And tells them:

لا تبنوا المستقبل على الأوهام.Do not build the future on illusions.

ولا تستبدلوا الحقيقة بالتصفيق.Do not replace truth with applause.

فالأمم العظيمة لا تكبر بالشعارات.Great nations do not grow through slogans.

بل بالعلم والحرية والمسؤولية.But through knowledge, freedom, and responsibility.

وحين تتصالح مع الحقيقة.And when they reconcile with truth.

تبدأ الهزائم القديمة بالتحول إلى دروس.Old defeats begin to turn into lessons.

وتتحول الجراح إلى حكمة.And wounds into wisdom.

ويتحول الألم إلى طريقٍ نحو النهوض.And pain into a path toward renewal.

لأن الأمم لا تُقاس بعدد انتصاراتها فقط.For nations are not measured only by their victories.

بل بقدرتها على أن تتعلم من هزائمها.But by their ability to learn from their defeats.
