لم يكن اسمه رقماً… 

He was never meant to be a number.

كان طبيب أسنان من حمورية، 

He was a dentist from Hamouria,

يحمل في قلبه إيماناً بسيطاً بأن الإصلاح ممكن. 

carrying a simple belief that change could be peaceful.

لكن في آب

2011 But in August 2011

انفتح بابٌ أسود في تاريخ حياته. 

a dark gate opened in the history of his life.

دخل منه إلى عالمٍ لا يشبه الحياة. 

He entered a world that resembled no

life.

هناك… في فرع فلسطين

 There… in Palestine Branch

تعلم الجسد لغة الألم. 

the body learned the language of pain.

ثم جاء الطريق إلى الجحيم الأكبر:

 Then came the road to the greater hell:

سجن صيدنايا.

 Saydnaya Prison.

في صيدنايا

 In Saydnaya

لا أسماء،

 there are no names,

بل أرقام. 

only numbers.

لا مشي،

 no walking,

بل زحف على الأرض.

 only crawling on the ground.

ولا ماء أحياناً…

 and sometimes no water…

إلا ما يتركه اليأس في الأجساد.

 except what despair leaves inside the body.

لكن السجن ارتكب خطأً واحداً.

 But the prison made one mistake.

لقد كان بين السجناء طبيب.

 Among the prisoners there was a doctor.

بدون أدوات.

 Without tools.

بدون دواء.

 Without medicine.

بدون تخدير.

 Without anesthesia.

ومع ذلك

 And yet

كان يحاول أن يعيد بعض الحياة 

he tried to return fragments of life

إلى أجسادٍ حطمها التعذيب.

 to bodies shattered by torture.

وفي عام

2014 And in 2014

حدث اليوم الذي لن ينساه التاريخ.

 came the day history cannot forget.

مئات الجثث 

Hundreds of bodies

فرشت أرض السجن. 

covered the prison floors.

وكان واقفاً بينها 

And he stood among them

كحجرٍ أحمر من حمورية.

 like the red stone of Hamouria.

صلباً…

 Unbroken…

لكن شاهداً.

 but witnessing.

حين نُقل إلى سجن عدرا 

When he was transferred to Adra prison

كان وزنه 

his weight

خمسةً وأربعين كيلوغراماً فقط.

 was only forty-five kilograms.

لكن روحه

 But his spirit

كانت أثقل من السجن نفسه. 

was heavier than the prison itself.

وفي التاسع من آذار

2019 And on March 9, 2019

انفتح بابٌ آخر.

 another door opened.

باب الحرية.

 The door of freedom.

لم يصدق أنه خرج حياً

 He could not believe he had survived

إلا عندما ابتعدت بوابة السجن خلفه.

 until the prison gate disappeared behind him.

واليوم

 Today

يقف الدكتور محمد حمزة 

Dr. Mohammad Hamza

نقيباً لأطباء الأسنان في دمشق. 

serving as the head of the dentists’ syndicate in Damascus.

ليس كناجٍ فقط،

 not only as a survivor,

بل كشاهدٍ 

but as a witness

على أن الإنسان 

that the human spirit

قد يُكسَر جسده…

 may break in body…

لكن روحه 

but the soul

يمكن أن تبقى

 can remain

حرةً.

 free.

كلمة ختامية

حمورية التي يعني اسمها الحجر الأحمر النفيس

 Hamouria, whose name means the precious red stone

أنجبت رجلاً

 gave birth to a man

أثبت أن الإنسان 

who proved that a human being

يمكن أن يُلقى في أعمق السجون 

may be thrown into the deepest prisons

لكن قلبه

 yet his heart

يبقى مفتوحاً 

remains open

نحو الحرية.

 toward freedom.
