في البداية…
In the beginning…
لم يكن هناك ظل…
There was no shadow…
لأن الضوء كان كاملاً…
Because light was complete…
لكن… But…
عندما وُلد الجدار…
When the wall was born…
وُلد الظل معه…
Shadow was born with it…
الظل ليس عدواً للنور…
Shadow is not the enemy of light…
بل أثره العميق…
But its deeper trace…
الضوء يقول…
Light speaks…
والظل… يهمس…
And shadow… whispers…
في الزوايا…
In the corners…
يسكن الظل…
Shadow resides…
لا ليختبئ…
Not to hide…
بل ليحفظ الأسرار…
But to guard secrets…
كل عمارة عظيمة…
Every great architecture…
تعرف الظل قبل الضوء…
Knows shadow before light…
لأن الظل هو الذي يعطي النور معناه…
Because shadow gives light its meaning…
في المساجد القديمة…
In ancient mosques…
لم يكن الظل فراغاً…
Shadow was not emptiness…
بل كان عبادةً أخرى…
But another form of worship…
قوسٌ…
An arch…
عمودٌ…
A column…
شبكة مشربية…
A lattice screen…
كلها لم تُبنَ لتُرى فقط…
All were not built just to be seen…
بل لتصنع ظلالاً…
But to create shadows…
ترقص مع الشمس…
That dance with the sun…
في الظهيرة…
At noon…
يختبئ الظل تحت الأشياء…
Shadow hides beneath things…
كأنه يعود إلى أصله…
As if returning to its origin…
وفي الغروب…
At sunset…
يتمدد الظل…
Shadow stretches…
كحكايةٍ طويلة…
Like a long story…
تحكي ما لا يقوله الضوء…
Telling what light cannot say…
هناك عمارة…
There is architecture…
تخاف الظل…
That fears shadow…
فتُغرق كل شيء بالإنارة…
So it floods everything with light…
فتفقد العمق…
And loses depth…
وهناك عمارة…
And there is architecture…
تفهم الظل…
That understands shadow…
فتصنع به الروح…
And shapes the soul with it…
الظل ليس غياباً…
Shadow is not absence…
بل حضورٌ خفي…
But a hidden presence…
ليس ظلاماً…
Not darkness…
بل نورٌ يتأمل نفسه…
But light contemplating itself…
وهنا…
And here…
يتحول المعماري…
The architect becomes…
ليس مصمماً للضوء فقط…
Not only a designer of light…
بل نحاتاً للظل…
But a sculptor of shadow…
وهذا هو السر…
And this is the secret…
أن أجمل ما في العمارة…
That the most beautiful in architecture…
ليس ما تراه…
Is not what you see…
بل ما تشعر به…
But what you feel…
في المساحات التي لا تُضاء بالكامل…
In the spaces never fully lit…
